Ciara was born in Austin, Texas, but as the daughter of a military man, she spent her formative years in California, New York, and even Germany before settling down in Atlanta, Georgia. Early attempts at songwriting and singing in an all-girl group gave Ciara some experience, and by the time she met up with Jazze Pha, she was ready for stardom.
Alongside Sean Garrett, Ciara co-wrote the hit single “Goodies,” which was released by LaFace and produced by Lil Jon. It hit the charts in 2004 and paved the way for Ciara’s debut album, which was released in September of the same year. “1,2 Step” and “Oh” were released in the following year to enormous success, and in 2006 Ciara began touring with Bow Wow and Chris Brown. Evolution, Ciara’s sophomore album, was released next, and featured the hit singles “Get Up," "Promise," and "Like a Boy.” It debuted at number one and reached platinum status. Fantasy Ride came next in 2009, and featured appearances from such notable artists as Young Jeezy, Missy Elliott, and Justin Timberlake. “Love Sex Magic” was a worldwide hit, and the singles “Never Ever,” “Work,” and “Like A Surgeon” fared equally well.
Most recently, Ciara recorded the hit “Takin’ Back My Love” with Enrique Iglesias, and in 2010, she released Basic Instinct, her fourth studio album. Basic Instinct returned Ciara to her original urban sound, and spawned three hit singles: "Ride,” "Gimmie Dat," and "Speechless.” Ciara has plans for future album releases and tours, and thus far in her career she has sold more than four million albums and nearly seven million digital tracks.
