The hip hop recording artist known as Devin the Dude was born Devin Copeland in St. Petersburg, Florida. When he was a child, Devin’s family moved to Texas, where he spent the remainder of his childhood. As a teenager, he was most interested in skateboarding and breakdancing, and by the time he graduated from high school, he’d determined to pursue a career as a rap and hip=hop artists.
Devin’s earliest gig was as a member of the Odd Squad, which eventually led to his joining the group Facemob, before launching a solo career in the late 1990’s. Devin the Dude’s debut album, The Dude, arrived in 1998 and garnered him significant attention, paving the way for career which gave audiences the additional albums: Just Tryin’ ta Live (2002), To Tha X-Treme (2004), Waitin’ to Inhale (2007), Landing Gear (2008), Suite 420 (2010), and Gotta Be Me (2010.)
In addition to his own music, Devin the Dude has frequently made appearances in collaborative music with other artists, including: Scarface (on “Hand of the Dead Body,” “Fuck Faces,” “Only Your Mother”); Dr. Dre (“Fuck You”); Bun B (“4 O’Clock in Da Mornin” and “On One”); Jay-Z (“Pussy”); Lil Jon (“Ooh Na Na Naa Naa”); The Roots (“Somebody’s Gotta Do It”); Z-Ro (“The Mule”); Daz Dillinger (“Gettin High”); King Chip (“Get Lifted.”)
