The R&B duo known as K-Ci & JoJo was estasbliehd in the early 1990’s, when North Carolinian brothers Joel and Cedric Hailey ( JoJo and K-Ci, respectively) began to perform and record together. The brothers first burst onto the music scene with the the song “How Could You” in 1996, featured in the movie Bulletproof (featuring Adam Sandler and Damon Wayans.) The success of the single led to a collaboration with 2Pac on his hit “How Do U Want It,” which paved the way for K-Ci & JoJo’s success with their debut album.
Love Always arrived in 1997, spawning the singles “Last Night’s Letter,” “You Bring Me Up,” and the smash hit “All My Life,” which rose to the top of the charts, hitting the number one spot on the Billboard 100 and remaining there for multiple weeks. The song earned K-Ci & JoJo multiple award nominations, including an American Music Award for Favorite R&B Band/Duo/Group; a Soul Train Award for Best R&B/Soul Single, Group, Band, or Group; and a Grammy for Best R&B Song.
K-Ci & JoJo followed-up with the albums It’s Real (1999), X (2000), and Emotional (2002.) The albums spawned the additional top twenty R&B hits “Don’t Rush (Take Love Slowly),” “Tell Me It’s Real,” in addition to a dozen other successful singles. During this time, K-Ci & JoJo continued to appear individually as featured artists on a number of songs for other performers, including: “Before I Lay (You Drive Me Crazy)” (with CeCe Peniston); “Rapper’s Ball” (with E-40); and “Toss It Up” (with Makaveli.) The duo also recorded the songs “Money Can’t Buy You Love” and “Life,” which were featured in the films The Players Club and Life, the latter of which starred Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence.
K-Ci & JoJo continue to perform and record together as a duo, in addition to working on solo projects individually. The duo most recently released the album My Brother’s Keeper, after signing a deal with Babyface’s new label, Soda Pop Records. K-Ci & JoJo were also recently featured in the docu-series “K-Ci & JoJo… Come Clean,” which chronicled the duo’s rise to fame and their individual battles with addictions.
