The American hip hop group known as The Dirty Dozen, or D12, was established in Detroit, Michigan by founding member and international rap star Eminem. In the mid 1990’s, Eminem brought together rap stars Proof, Bizarre, Kuniva, Kon Artis, and Bugz to form D12, and the group released their first EP, The Underground EP, in 1997. D12 went through a number of changes in its early years, and suffered the tragic loss of Bugz only two years after its formation, but the group has endured since its inception and remains one of Detroit’s most groundbreaking hip hop groups.
D12 released its debut album, Devil’s Night, in 2001. The album brought the group instant success, rising to the number one spot on the U.S. charts and eventually reaching multi-platinum status internationally. The album featured the top twenty hit “Purple Pills” and the additional singles “Shit on You” and “Fight Music.” D12’s sophomore effort, D12 World, followed in 2004 and was even more successful than its predecessor, reaching into the number one spot on charts internationally and spawning the top ten single, “My Band.”
Shortly after the release of D12 World, the group suffered another loss in the shooting death of Proof, but the group has continued to perform since that time. Despite the massive success of Eminem’s solo career, D12 continues to perform with the current lineup of: Eminem, Kuniva, Bizarre, Fuzz Scoota, Swifty McVay, and Kon Artis.
