The American rapper Mike Jones was born in 1981. As a child, Jones initially had aspirations to become a basketball star, but by the time he was a teenager he had dropped out of high school and was working a variety of odd jobs to make ends meet. He was inspired by his grandmother to pursue a career as a rapper, and so launched his career in 2001, establishing his own record label and distributing his music independently.
In 2004, Jones’s talents caught the attention of Jive Records and Warner Bros. and so he signed with the label and entered the studio to prepare his major-label debut. The result, Who Is Mike Jones?, reached multi-platinum status after its release in 2005, and was preceded by the platinum-selling single “Back Then.” The album rose to the number one spot on the R&B and rap charts and set the stage for a career which has been on the rise ever since.
Mike Jones followed Who Is Mike Jones? with the album The Voice in 2009, which fared equally well. Notable singles from Mike Jones include: “Still Tippin,” Flossin,” “My 64,” “Drop & Gimme 50,” “Cuddy Buddy,” “Next to You,” and “Boi.” Mike Jones also lent his vocals to T-Pain for the hit song “I’m ‘n Luv (Wit a Stripper)” and to Ying Yang Twins for the song “Badd.”
Mike Jones is a rap star on the rise and definitely one to watch in the coming years. His next album, Where Is Mike Jones?, is expected to release in 2017.
