The American rapper known as YG was born Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson in 1990. YG burst onto the music scene in 2009, when he released his debut single, “Toot It and Boot It,” in collaboration with artist Ty Dolla Sign. Prior to that, YG had created his own record label, Pu$haz, in 2008, and through that label he had released the singles “Aim Me” and “She A Model.” YG also ran his own business on the side, a clothing business, until his breakthrough in 2009.
“Toot It and Boot It” garnered YG attention from not only a growing fan base, but also Def Jam Recordings, which signed the artist after the single reached into the mainstream charts. For the next few years, YG released a number of mixtapes, including: The Real 4Fingaz (2010), Just Re’d Up (2011), 4 Hunid Degreez (2012), and Boss Yo Life Up Gang (2013.) He also released the additional singles: “Patty Cake”; “Bitches Ain’t Shit” (featuring Hipsey Hussle and Tyga); “You Broke” (featuring Nipsey Hussle); “My Nigga” (featuring Rich Homie Quan and Jeezy); and “Left, Right” (featuring DJ Mustard.)
YG has also been featured on a number of other singles in collaboration with other artists, including: “Crush on You” (with New Boyz); “F Y’all” (with Ty$); “Function” (with Problem and E-40); “Like I Got a Gun” (with Colette Carr); “Drop It Down” (with Clyde McKnight); “Act Right” (with Yo Gotti); “Hoe” (with Kirko Bangz); and “Don’t Tell ‘Em” (with Jeremih.)
