Dave East Biography
The American rapper known as Dave East was born David Brewster, Jr., in 1988. Dave grew up in the East Harlem area of New York, where he played basketball for his high school and initial harbored dreams of becoming a professional athlete. After graduating, East attended the University of Richmond and then Townson University, where he began to experiment with writing and recording raps.
Dave’s debut mixtape, Change of Plans, didn’t garner him much attention upon its release in 2010; neither did the next four. But his sixth mixtape, Gemini, caught the interest of rapper Nas, who signed Dave East to Mass Appeal Records in 2014. The deal eventually lead East to Def Jam Recordings in 2016; after signing with the label, Dave released his most successful mixtape, Kairi Chanel, which rose into the top forty on the mainstream charts in the United States.
Dave East is a rising rap star and actor. He recently appeared in the BET series Being Mary Jane, and then later appeared in the music video for Trina’s single “It Ain’t Me.” East’s much anticipated debut album is expected in the coming year, but his most recent release, the EP Paranoia: A True Story, arrived in August of 2017.
