The American rapper known as Xzibit was born Alvin Nathaniel Joiner in 1974 in Detroit, Michigan. Xzibit rose to fame as the host of the hit MTV series Pimp My Ride in 2004, but long before that he grew up with his father in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he began writing his own raps and studying music. At the age of seventeen, he moved in with his sister in California, where he began to seriously pursue a career as an artist.
Xzibit’s earliest gigs were as a member of the group Likwit Crew, with which he garnered his first record deal. But even while touring and performing as one of the group’s members, Xzibit released his first album, At the Speed of Life, in 1996. The album rose into the Billboard charts and spawned the hit “Paparazzi,” which also made Xzibit popular in Germany.
Since that time, Xzibit has also released the albums: 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz (1998), Restless (2000), Man vs. Machine (2002), Weapons of Mass Destruction (2004), Full Circle (2006), and Napalm (2012.) The albums spawned the additional singles: “The Foundation,” “Eyes May Shine,” “What U See Is What U Get,” “Year 2000,” “Front 2 Back,” “X,” “Get Your Walk On,” “Multiply,” “Symphony in X Major,” “Hey Now (Mean Muggin),” and “Up Out the Way.”
In addition to his own music, and his success hosting Pimp My Ride for MTV, Xzibit has also appeared on a number of works by other artists, including: Snoop Dogg (“Bitch Please”); Warren G (“Game Don’t Wait”); DJ Quik (“Focus”); and DJ Hurricane (“Connect.”) Xzibit continues to perform, record, and host Pimp My Ride.
