The American hip-hop artist Joe Budden was born in 1980 in Jersey City, New Jersey. As a teenager, young Joe suffered from the temptation of drugs, although he was also inspired by rap and hip-hop. After recovering from his addiction through a successful rehab program, Budden began freestyling; his talents eventually caught the attention of Def Jam Records.
Joe Budden’s debut album, Joe Budden, was released in 2003 and featured the hit song “Pump It Up.” The single earned Budden a Grammy nomination and garnered Joe significant attention after it was included in the film 2 Fast 2 Furious. The album also spawned the singles “Fire” and “Drop Drop,” but conflicts with the record label caused Joe to leave Def Jam Records after the album’s release.
Budden instead signed with Amalgam Digital in time to release his next album, Padded Room, in 2009. Around the same time, Joe began to collaborate with fellow rappers Joell Ortiz, Royce da 5’9”, and Crooked I on the song “Slaughterhouse,” which eventually led to the formation of the supergroup of the same name. The group released two albums: Slaughterhouse and welcome to: Our House, both of which went on to become highly successful.
Joe Budden has also provided vocals to a number of projects by other artists, including: “The Future” (for The Game); “She Don’t Put It Down” (for Lil Wayne); “NBA” (for Wiz Khalifa); “Clubbin” (for Marques Houston); “Whatever U Want” (for Christina Milian); and “Classit u’Parsi” (for Subliminal.) In addition, Budden continues to perform and collaborate as a member of Slaughterhouse, although he also continues to work as a solo artist. Joe’s most recent releases include No Love Lost (2013) and All Love Lost (2014.)
