The American hip-hop duo known as Das EFX was established in the early 1990’s after founding members Andre Weston (Skoob) and William Hines (Books) met while attending Virginia State University. The duo’s performances featured a unique rapping style which brought them to the attention of EPMD, which signed them to their first recording contract.
Das EFX released its debut album, Dead Serious, in 1992 and it reached platinum status. The album’s first single, “They Want EFX,” also rose into the top twenty on the mainstream and R&B charts and the number one spot on the U.S. Rap charts. Additional top give rap singles from the album include “Straight Out the Sewer” and “Mic Checka.” Dead Serious brought Das EFX significant acclaim and commercial success, and set the stage for a career which has since lasted well into the new millennium.
Das EFX followed Dead Serious with: Straight Up Sewaside (1993), Hold It Down (1995), Generation EFX (1998), and How We Do (2003.) Collectively, the albums spawned the additional singles: “Freakit,” “Bakneffek,” “Kaught in da Ak,” “Real Hip-Hop,” “Microphone Master,” “Rap Scholar,” and “Set It Off.” The songs “Microphone Master” and “Rap Scholar” featured appearances by Mobb Deep and Redman, respectively.
Although Das EFX has not released a studio album in nearly ten years, the duo has recently announced a return to writing and recording for another album scheduled for release in the coming years.
