The American actress and rapper known as Rah Digga was born Rashia Fisher in New Jersey. Young Rashia did not always have aspirations to become a performer; she initially studied electrical engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. But throughout her studies, she harbored a love of rap, inspired by such performers as Juice Crew and KRS-One. Eventually, she decided to pursue a career as a rapper.
Rah Digga’s breakthrough came with her debut album, Dirty Harriet, which arrived in 2000 and featured contributions from Eve and Busta Rhymes. One year later, she received further recognition when she starred in the 2001 film Thirteen Ghosts, contributing the song Mirror Mirror to the movie’s soundtrack. By the end of the decade, Rah Digga had became one of the most notable female MC/rappers, giving audiences such chart-topping rap singles as: “Imperial,” “Break Fool,” “See It In Your Eyes,” “Warning Shots,” and “This Ain’t no Lil’ Kid Rap.”
Rah Digga also appeared as a guest artist on a number of singles for other performers, including: “Cowboys” (with Fugees); “Six-Pack” (with Heather B.); “Down for the Count” (with Talib Kweli); “Type I Hate” (with Masta Ace); “Betta Stay Up in Your House” (with Busta Rhymes); “I Know What You Want” (with Busta Rhymes); “Next Generation” (with Wyclef Jean); “Ladies First Freestyle” (with Tony Touch); and “Earrings Off” (with Marco Polo.) For her contributions to music, Rah Digga has been recognized with multiple BET Award nominations and BET Hip-Hop Award nominations, with one BET Hip-Hop Award win for “Touch It.”
Rah Digga has been recognized by Allmusic as one of rap’s most “prominent women MCs.” Rah Digga most recently surprised her fans with her first album release in nearly a decade; the album Classic arrived in 2010.
