The American rapper and songwriter Obie Trice was born in 1977 and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. Before Obie rose to fame for his work with famed rapper Eminem, he learned to rhyme by listening to artists such as N.W.A. Trice began attending rap battles throughout the Detroit area when he was a teenager, until in the late 1990’s a meeting with Eminem brought him to Shady Records, with which he signed in 2000.
Obie Trice made his film debut in Eminem’s 8 Mile and appeared on the soundtrack as well. Shortly thereafter, Obie released his debut album, Cheers, in 2003, featuring the singles “Got Some Teeth,” “Don’t Come Down,” and “Set Up.” The album features contributions from such notable artist as Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, and Timbaland.
Eventually, Cheers rose to platinum status and set the stage for the follow-up albums Second Round’s on Me (2006), Bottoms Up (2012), and The Hangover (2014.) The albums spawned the additional singles: “The Setup,” “Don’t Come Down,” “Wanna Know,” “Snitch,” “Got Hungry,” “Battle Cry,” and “Spend the Day.” In addition, Obie Trice has guest appeared on works by a number of other artists, including Eminem (on “Love Me”); DMX (on “Go to Sleep”); The Notorious B.I.G. (“It Has Been Said”); Kuniva (on “Cry Now”); and 40 Glocc (on “That’s the Way I Like It.”)
Obie Trice continues to perform and record. He recently launched a series of performances to further promote his latest release, The Hangover, which just arrived in 2014.
