The American rapper known as Princess Nokia was born Destiny Nicole Frasqueri in 1992. Frasqueri experienced the most challenging of childhoods; after losing her mother to AIDS as a child, she was abused in the foster homes which provided her shelter, eventually running away on her own at the age of sixteen.
Destiny adopted the moniker Princess Nokia in her late teens, at the same time that she launched her SoundCloud and YouTube channels. Her earliest releases on those networks include the songs “Destiny” and “Bitch I’m Posh,” the latter of which went viral. Between 2014 and 2015, Nokia released the mixtapes Metallic Butterfly and Honeysuckle, and guest appeared on the songs “Puerto Rican Judo” (for Ratking) and “Steep Tech” (for Despot.)
Princess Nokia is still a brand new artist on the rise and one to watch in the coming years. She recently released her first EP, 1992, followed immediately by the mixtape 1992 Deluxe. Her latest collaboration is with the R&B artist artist K. Michelle, on the single “Outro.” The song appears on the album Kimberly: The People I Used to Know.
