The American hip hop artist known as Method Man was born Clifford Smith in 1971 in Hempstead, New York. Method Man initially rose to fame as a member of Wu-Tang Clan, but right away he set himself apart from the other group members, being the only one with a solo track on Enter the Wu-Tan: 36 Chambers. Even while still a Wu-Tang member, Method Man launched his own solo career in 1994, releasing the critically acclaimed debut, Tical.
Tical reached platinum status and featured the hit single “All I Need.” During this time, Method Man also collaborated with some of hip-hop’s most notable performers, including Notorious B.I.G., Showbiz and A.G., and Tupac Shakur. Shortly after, Wu-Tang Clan released Wu-Tang Forever, multi-platinum album, before Method Man released his sophomore solo endeavor, Tical 2000: Judgment Day, in 1998. This album, too, reached multi-platinum status, and featured contributions from a number of high-profile artists, including Janet Jackson, Redman, and Chris Rock.
In the new millennium, Method Man has joined the ranks of Ja Rule, Jay-Z, and Redman for an extensive tour, and released the additional albums: Tical 0: The Prequel (2004) and 4:21… The Day After (2006.) He also launched an acting career, appearing in such television shows as The Wire and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, the latter in which he has a recurring role. In film, he has appeared in the movies How High (2001), Scary Movie 3 (2004), Garden State (2004), Venom (2005), The Wackness (2008), The Sitter (2011), and Red Tails (2012.)
Method Man continues to perform and record. His next album is scheduled for release in 2014.
