The American hip hop artist known as Yung La first arrived on the music scene with his debut single, “Ain’t I” in 2008. A chance meeting a number of years before, in 2008, had brought the aspiring rap star to the attention of Young Dro, who introduced Yung La to the executives at Hustle Records. Impressed by his talents, they signed Yung La to the label and almost immediately after released Yung La’s debut mixtape, Offset Shawty.
“Ain’t I” followed, rising into the top fifty on the mainstream charts and reaching platinum status. The success of his debut earned Yung La a new recording contract with Interscope Records, and he entered the studio to prepare for his debut album. While writing and recording new material, Yung La released a number of mixtapes – The Matrix; Black Boy Swag, White Boy Tags; Lamborghini Leland; I Think I Can Sing; Batman & Robin (Superhero Language); Crush Da Block; Suntrust LeLand. During this time he also provided guest vocals for a number of other artists, including multiple songs for Young Dro (such as “Take Off,” “Freeze Me,” and “Damn I Look Good.”)
Yung La ended up leaving Interscope before the release of his debut album, but the album, Check, finally released in 2012 through the independent label, U-Digg Music Group. Yung La continues to perform and record, but recently changed his moniker to Da Boi Lay.
