DaBaby Biography
The artist known as DaBaby rose to prominence with the success of his hit single “Suge,” but long before that, Jonathan Lyndale Kirk was born in 1991 in Ohio. Kirk moved with his family to North Carolina, when he was only eight years old. He spent his formative years growing up in Charlotte, where he became enamored with music as a teenager.
After graduating from Vance High School in 2010, Kirk adopted the moniker DaBaby and began writing his own music. In 2015, he released his debut mixtape, Nonfiction; the debut was followed by a series of additional mixtape releases: God’s Work, Baby Talk, Billion Dollar Baby, and Back on My Baby. In 2018, Kirk signed with South Coast Music Group and Interscope Records in a joint deal. Shortly thereafter, he entered the studio to prepare for a debut album.
DaBaby’s first album, Baby on Baby, arrived in 2019 and spawned the hit that would prove to be the artist’s big breakthrough. “Suge” rose into the top ten in June of 2019 and became a summertime hit for the artist. Since that time, DaBaby has released the additional album Kirk, which arrived in late 2019 and debuted at the top of the mainstream charts. DaBaby is currently wrapping an extensive 2019 headlining tour before returning to the studio to work on new material.
